Pinpointe - Release 43 (April 2020) - Overview

Release 43 adds some new functionality and improvements to the Drag & Drop Builder

A few of the major improvements are:

  • Improvement to how buttons are rendered across the various email client software programs such as Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and the associated iOS and Android clients for mobile devices.

  • The addition of a new Image Editor within the Drag & Drop Builder application.

  • Improvements in the way the system handles a session time-out in terms of the user being able to recover in-progress work.

  • Users can now exclude contacts from lists based on an account-wide email address vs database-specific subscriberID.
  • The Builder is now compatible with Grammarly on a user’s local system.

New Features

[PINPOINTE-1298] - Builder: Add an Image Editor

This issue has been resolved. A new image editing tool has been added to the D&D Builder. When a user clicks on an image container in a Block, it will bring up the standard image control sub-panel on the left side of the screen. Here the user will see a blue “Edit Images” button. Clicking on this button will bring up the new image editor tool. See Figure 1 below.

Fig 2 below shows the Image Editor work area.

[PINPOINTE-1651] - Builder: Get / display link for an image in image manager and in Builder

This new feature allows a user to more easily find and copy the URL for an image in their account. Among other uses, this URL can be used as a clickable link within the campaign itself. The image URL can be found one of two ways:

  • Within the Drag & Drop Builder. The user can click on an image container (one that is either empty or already has an image in it) in the campaign template, which will open the image control subpanel. See Fig 1 below.

Fig 1

Clicking on the green “Upload Image” button will open your image folder tool. You can then right-click on any image, which will open a drop-down menu of selectable actions. Click on “Show URL” See Fig 2.

Fig 2

The user can now copy the URL from the pop-up that will appear near the top of the screen, and can paste it as a link within the campaign. See Fig 3.

  • The second way to access an image’s URL is to go to the “Resources” tab on the top menu, and select “Manage Images & Files” option. This will open your image resource folder. Right-click the image and follow the instructions as set forth above. See Fig 1 below.

[PINPOINTE-1754] - Builder: Increase range of Letter Spacing slider

The maximum values available for the letter-spacing (kerning) feature has been increased from -3 to 5, with 0 being the default.  Figs 1 and 2 below show the slider control with the value set to “0”, and the resultant text.

Improvements

[PINPOINTE-1678] - Builder: Filter out / block Grammarly

The D&D Builder has been modified to filter out and block any detrimental effects caused by the presence of the Grammarly extension addon on a user’s system.

[PINPOINTE-1704] - Builder: View Image Locks Screen/Cannot close image view without closing browser

The Builder application no longer locks when a user selects the “View” option after right-clicking on an image in their account’s image library while in the Builder. See Fig 1 below.

[PINPOINTE-1549] - Builder: Add option for 'remove formatting' from highlighted text

User can now undo text formatting after setting it using the small WYSIWYG toolbar. See Fig 1 below.

Bug Fixes

[PINPOINTE-450] - Builder: Customers losing builder sessions (Fatal Error: Call to a member function isAdmin() )

This problem has been resolved. If the user Builder session times out due to inactivity, when the user returns, they will now see a pop-up informing them their session has expired and will allow them to log back in. Any unsaved work should still be in the canvas. See Fig 1 below.

Fig 1

PLEASE NOTE: While this modification should prevent loss of unsaved work, it is inadvisable to leave your Builder session open unattended for extended periods of time. A more prudent approach is to always save & exit your work when you anticipate there will be no further activity on a given campaign template.

[PINPOINTE-1668] - Builder: Insert image link doesn't allow entering a dynamic link to an image

This problem has been resolved. In the same manner a user may insert dynamic (variablized) links to custom text fields in a campaign template,, a user may also link to personalized images per contact.

Example: A user imports a file with contacts into a database. One or more of the fields (columns) in this file is populated with URLs that point to various image locations. The images these URLs point to can be hosted in the user’s own local resources, be hosted on some third-party location, or be hosted in the user’s account in Pinpointe.

The user may assign the custom field name or names as a variable in a template. When the email is sent, each contact that opens the email will see the specific image(s) their specific URL(s) links to. Variabilized image links can be attached to text strings, image containers or buttons. Figs 1, 2 and 3 below show the links for each respectively.

[PINPOINTE-1520] - Builder: Button Spacer slider doesn't work when using +/-to increment counter for multiple buttons on same line

The problem has been fixed.

[PINPOINTE-1570] - Builder: Buttons that are 100% of width of parent block (excluding outside gutter) render the label wrapped

This issue has been fixed. Fig 1 below shows a correctly rendered button in Apple Mail that is the full width of the parent block (less outside vertical gutters) and has a button label nearly as wide as the button itself.

Fig 1

[PINPOINTE-1571] - Builder: Button labels exhibit word wrap in mobile devices in both Apple and Android

This problem has been resolved.

[PINPOINTE-1572] - Builder: Separator +/- buttons are capped at 500 max width, regardless of actual max width

This issue has been resolved. The incrementer “+-” button will increase the separator line width up to the maximum allowable by the container the separator is in. See Fig 1 below.

Fig 1

[PINPOINTE-1635] - Builder: Malformed rendering for buttons with borders in Outlook - related to font size / button height

This issue has been fixed. Buttons with contrasting borders will correctly render within the individual constraints of the various email client software programs such as Gmail, Outlook and Apple Mail.

[PINPOINTE-1753] - Builder: Button widget min, height issues

This problem has been resolved. Buttons can now be reduced to a height of 12 px vs original 20. However, please note to avoid rendering issues, the font of button labels must be reduced in certain cases in tandem with button height reduction.

[PINPOINTE-1719] - Builder: Space before bolded link is missing

This problem has been fixed. Making one or more blank spaces before or after a text link, or making the blank spaces themselves part of the link, no longer causes rendering issues.

[PINPOINTE-1732] - Builder: Setting Link target when applying a link, is not applied

This issue has been fixed. Setting the target of a text link using the small WYSIWYG toolbar to “New Window” will now carry over and be set in the left-side link control sub-panel as well. See Fig 1 below for example of setting the link using the toolbar.

Fig 1

Fig 2 below shows the resulting settings in the left-hand control panel for text links.

Fig 2

[PINPOINTE-1509] - Builder: Rendering a separator widget and basic block, are not correct

This problem has been resolved. In some email client software, the separator line had been rendered at the wrong height.

[PINPOINTE-1522] - Builder: Rendering of several items including 3 column widget - not correct on Android 7, 8, 9

This issue has been fixed.

[PINPOINTE-1591] - Builder: Parent-block background color bleed-through to element containers in 3-column blocks

This issue has been resolved. Fig 1 below shows a three-column block in Gmail which shows no bleed-through of red on the white background..

Fig 1

[PINPOINTE-1592] - Builder: On 2- and 3-column blocks, increased parent block top and bottom spacers actual split height increase with child element container

This problem has been fixed.

[PINPOINTE-1727] - Builder: Block - Text Left, Image Right Broken

This issue has been fixed.

[PINPOINTE-1752] - Builder: Inserting a saved block is garbled

This problem has been fixed.
